Can any game live up to that promise? Especially a game made by a small team of developers whose last release was Joe Dangerous, an unremarkable video game about motorbike stunts. At this point itвЂ™s a blank canvas upon which we project our most outlandish ideas about what video games are and should be.

The problem: No ManвЂ™s Sky is one of those video games. What will we say about No ManвЂ™s Sky when itвЂ™s no longer an idea but an object we can interact with? I can almost taste the disappointment. Which makes putting together a list of вЂmost anticipated games of 2016вЂ™ a lot more difficult than I umвЂ¦ anticipated. I suspect 2016 will be defined by the surprise packages, the games we donвЂ™t even know about yet. For one thing there are far less вЂbig hittersвЂ™ looming.

Chocked full of big action sequences, beautiful graphics, great story-telling, and top-notch actors, the PlayStation 4 was the perfect canvas for Naughty Dog to paint their latest adventure. Naughty DogвЂ™s formula for Uncharted games has been a hit since Uncharted 2 arrived on the PlayStation 3 all those years back. Already said to be more powerful than SonyвЂ™s PlayStation 4 Pro, weвЂ™ll have to wait and see if MicrosoftвЂ™s proclamations come true. 2017 should see the release of MicrosoftвЂ™s high-end Xbox One вЂњScorpioвЂќ console that was announced back at E3 2016. Microsoft and the Xbox One ended 2016 on a good note and with more horizon. This catalog has grown to over 300 games at this point, and theyвЂ™ve really made good on the promise of backwards compatibility with games big and small arriving on the system. Alongside multi-plats to arrive, Microsoft also made a ton of Xbox 360 games backwards compatible on the Xbox One. Microsoft also offered these titles across both the console and PC in a cross buy arrangement that allowed for purchasers of one version to own both. Quantum Break, ReCore, Forza Horizon 3, and Gears of War 4 was a solid offering.

A number of high-rated exclusives were released across the year. Whether you went out and purchased a new console or not, Microsoft did not forget its existing player base. HDR capability, a sleeker form factor, and an UHD 4K Bluray player pushed consumers to purchase the new console, along with very enticing bundles that included multiple copies of games with the purchase. Consumers flocked to the Xbox One S console when it launched earlier this year.

Microsoft and the Xbox One had a great year.
